Johhny Appleseed

I went and saw Kobi's little play he had at school about Johhny Appleseed. It was really cute. It was so cute seeing him shy because he is definately not normally. I love being able to attend any of his activities. He just light up when I am there.

For all you Dr. Laura Haters

I like Dr Laura a lot. Page L. convinced me to go to her signing event yesterday for her new book The Proper Care and Feeding of Marriage. Let me tell you, I was very disappointed. She was not very nice. She barely smiled. Page went earlier than me because I had to pick Kobi up from school. She said that Dr. Laura got upset because people were taking pictures of her with the flash on, and she said "If one more person takes a picture of me with the flash on, I am shutting this thing down." I can understand that it bothered her eyes, and she had to sign a lot, but I felt she was a little rude.

When I got up to her (which took over 1 hour) I only had the CD's because it is easier for me to listen to her in the car than to take time out and read. I asked her to sign the CD cover and I asked the gentleman working there earlier if she could sign my journal because I didn't have a book. He said that I would have to ask her. I asked her to sign my journal, and she said "They will only let me sign books today". Who is they? She is in charge of herself. She could have easily signed my journal. She didn't smile either. There was a lot of people there, but she should have expected that. She also wouldn't allow any more pictures taken of her. I just hate it when you are disappointed. At least act like you wanted to be there. She really just acted like she had to do this. So, I don't think I will get another signature from her.

On the other hand, I do like her book. I have been listening to it in the car. It is very similar to the Proper Care and Feeding of Marriage. She has guided me a lot. I don't feel like I am a bad wife, but I had no idea of what a marriage should be like. My marriage with Kobi's biological father lasted like 1 month before I filed for a divorce (long story). My biological parents have been married a numerous amount of times (I do not even want to list how many). I did not know what being a good wife or mother was all about. She has guided me in that aspect. I don't sweat the small stuff. I focus more on my kids. I give my husband a kiss when he gets home, and I make sure I don't complain a lot. I try hard to make him happy without nagging to much. I make sure we have time for "extra-curricular activities" :). He is a good man and treats me so well. The least I could do is try to be a good wife.

So thank you Dr Laura for some guidance in being a good mother and a good wife, but I will not be meeting you again.

How come your daughter is so white?

This is the question I got from one of Kobi's classmates. Kids just ask anything. She was innocent. I just said "Because Heavenly Father made her that way. Maybe we need to put her in the sun more". I get people that look at our family in a strange way because of the differences in our skin color, but it's OK. We are a happy family, and that is what matters.

Feed the ducks

Went to dirty Sunset Park to feed the ducks. Not much to do around here, so it's better than nothing. I used to take Kobi all the time. It was Xayla's first time. She enjoyed it. Look at the dirty water!

Just a quote

I somehow got on the e-mail list for a gentleman that was injured in Iraq. I read his care page from time to time. There was a quote that his mother had on the site. It stated:

"Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you."
1. Jesus Christ
2. American GI
One died for your soul, the other for your freedom

I thought this was a strong statement. I liked it, so I thought I would share it.

Faith in God for girls

I am teaching the Valiant 11/12 year old girls. I only have 2 girls. It has been fun. If we have extra time, I was asked to help them with their Faith in God Awards. I thought "What is this?" I reviewed the little book I was given. This is all new to me. It was kind of fun because today we started memorizing the Articles of Faith. I have never memorized them. It is fun because the girls and I are learning together. I guess it is the perfect calling for me!

I guess I am not giving up bloggin after all :).

Work

Life kind of sucks right now. I have been working a lot more. I am tired. I am happy that I have a wonderful husband that has been helping around the house more. I can't wait until he is done with school. Hopefully, life will be better then, but I have a feeling new challenges will come my why. I am happy for my family and our health. We have been blessed with so much. I don't think I will be blogging much more because of my limited time. We will see. It does provide some stress relief. I will continue to peak in some of my other friends' lives through their blogs.

Kobi is so cute!

We had some fun. My cousin Hanna came down as well.

Fun picture

My sister's were in town. We tried the serious look :).

I thought this picture was cute. Xayla would not let me fix her hair, so I pinned it up kind of wild. Sort of the 80's look. It is a great picture (I thought!).

signing time

I just wanted to give an awesome website that is free. It shows you how to sign things. It's so great becuase it is free. Xayla is doing some sign language. I believe it helps her not to be so frustrated because sometimes (key word :)) she can tell me what she wants. I hope you like it!

Happy New Years!

I have been working a lot because K.C. is off now from school, and we need the extra money. I am tired, but it is temporary. I hope everyone made their New Year resolutions :). I tried to make weekly goals, monthly goals, and what I anticipate accomplishing by the end of the year. We will see if I have accomplished any of them.

Reflection on 2006. I believe I met some of my goals and did not meet other of my goals.
Some of the things I feel good about this year are:
1. Kobi has a studying/homework schedule. This makes me happy.
2. Kobi is not coming in our room in the middle of the night anymore.
3. I am teaching Xayla some sign language.
4. We figured out what will work best for our finances this year (balancing school and work).
5. I have been going to the gym 3 times a week pretty consistantly.
6. There are some books I have read on parenting and finances (and some I need to read this year).
7. I think my priorities are finally straight.
That is all I can think of right now. There are many that I need to add to this year. I would list them, but I rather discuss resolutions that I completed. This will hopefully give me motivation to complete more next year.

I hope everyone had a Happy New Year! Let's get motivated for this year!
