Martin Luther King Jr

Kobi has a new friend in the neighborhood. He is a real sweet boy. Kobi came up to me today while I was making breakfast and said "Mom can I tell you something?"
I said, "Yes."
He said, "Who was that lady that fought for black people so they would be free?"
I said, "The one that wanted to sit in the front of the bus? Rosa Parks?"
He said, "No."
I said, "Martin Luther King, Jr.?"
He said, "Yes."
I said, "Well, he is a man."
Kobi said, "Oh. Well, David's Dad won't let David watch shows with black people. He can only watch That's so Raven."
I said, "How do you feel about that?"
He said, "I thought that kind of stuff was over a long time ago. I guess I am not sure what I feel." And he shrugged his shoulders.
I said, "Well, I guess some people still do not think nicely. It's not OK to watch bad shows that have bad words or bad things in it, but that does not matter if they are black, white, asian, or whatever color. So it is not nice to tell your kids that they can't watch something just because of the color of someone's skin. We can't change the way his Dad thinks, but I can teach you what is right and what is not."
We kept talking from there. It is sad to know that there are many people with racial biases still. I just wanted to keep Kobi from not having to deal with it as long as possible. Kids are so cute. They don't see race. Everyone is their friend. I wish the rest of the work thought that way instead of changing the innocence of children.

KC

(Some of our engagement pictures. Dental School has caused my husband to look finer. I know :))

So KC passed his BOARDS!!!!! Yes! Now just 2 more years of school left and one more board exam! Life is looking sweeter already! I am so excited that is is Father's Day (and I really should be in bed!!!). I think K.C. is such a great Father. Kobi made all of these things for him at school and before he went to bed he was so excited about giving him his gifts. He is sleeping with them right now, so that he could give it to him first thing in the morning. So cute. I am so glad that KC is my best friend! He is truly a good guy.

Now on my real Father. It's sad to say that I try and keep a relationship with him. He lived in Puerto Rico now with his wife that I won't say much about. My kids are his ONLY grandkids, and he doesn't ever remember their names, ages, or birht dates. Kind of sad, but you know what...it's OK. I am happy for my immediate family that I am blessed with. KC is the best Father to our kids. I never really knew what it was like to actually have a positive male role model in your life. I am glad my children will never experience that. Happy Father's Days to all the Wonderful Father's out there and to those who could try harder.

pictures

So I think my child has her Dad's skin. Darn it. I need to remember to bring sunblock! Kobi and I never had that problem. Kobi said to me "Mom. I need some too or I am going to get cancer." What a smart boy...and he is right!

So does my child like babies or what!

Baseball is done. On too....

What's new

As you can see, I have been staying off the computer.

What's new:

Trying to potty train Xayla. Very fun :(.

Kobi started playing golf. He loves it. I am so glad he is old enough to do fun activities.

K.C. is taking his Dental Boards next Monday.

I have a new calling: teaching CTR 5. It has been fun and busy!

I'll have to post pictures later.

Check out my Slide Show!

Just had to try it.

Latest Kobi thing

By the way, we got the mouse! I was going to post a picture of it dead, but that would be kind of mean. Expensive gadgets did not work. The cheap yellow trap worked and peanut butter!

Anyway, just wanted to post the latest Kobi thing.

Today was Fast Sunday (Hopefully Michelle clued you in on this Nichole :)) and I told Kobi that it was. He was helping me do the laundry. Then he stated, "Mom, why is today called Fast Sunday when it goes just as slow as every other Sunday."

I had to laugh. The things kids say. Now we need a family home evening on Fast Sunday.

Kobi is turning 8 July 28th. That means he will be baptised this summer! We took him to a baptism last night to watch. He said "I'm going to be fine." I am so excited. I can't believe he is getting big!

Today during fast testimony meeting, we had a few new converts to the church get up an bear their testimony. They were so excited! You could see the sparkle in their eyes and the innocence and conviction in their voices. It was really neat seeing how excited and blessed they stated they were. I had to bear my testimony because it just reminded me of how sometimes when everything is going well in our lives, we forget about our Heavenly Father. We kind of take it for grated. It made me really think about my spiritual walk. I know what it was like when I first became a nurse. I got so excited about every little thing. You forget that after a while. It was the same way when I joined the church. I felt like a new person. My eyes were opened to so many new things. I was actually a happy person. Over time, you get comfortable with daily living. Today, the new converts sparked that excited in me again. It's a wonderful feeling.

Our California trip

Angel's Stadium

Dodger's Stadium

The Incredibles!

Mickey!

Aladdin was really good at California Adventure, but you need to wait in line for 2 hours to get a good seat!

I was so glad Xayla actually slept with Dad!

My picture posts

Backyard pictures.

Here is our simple backyard. I am missing a couple of rose bushes. We need to get a swing set as well. How do you get rid of yellow patches? We have been watering our yard like crazy, but we have some patches. Maybe I will buy some seeds. The guy that did my backyard said he would spray it with something to help it grow. We will see. For our first backyard, I am happy. Better than the dirt we had.

Disneyland

So we went to Disneyland last week. It was a lot of fun. I will have to post pictures later. I haven't downloaded my pictures yet. We went to two baseball games last Tues. (Angels and Tigers and Dodgers and Giants). I actually wanted to see Barry Bonds hit a home run even though everyone hates him. He hit one the next day.

Wed. was Disneyland. I can hang a long time at Disneyland. K.C. wanted to take a nap. He said I need to find new Disneyland partners because I wear him out. How long does everyone else stay at theme parks? What's "normal"? We stayed for 7 hours (I could have stayed longer), and K.C. went back to the hotel and passed out. He slept for 12 hours! He said the sun wore him out.

Thurs. was California Adventure. It was my first time there. I was pleasantly surprised the Cal. Adventure was not all rollercoasters. K.C. did well there because there was a lot of shows and sitting down. We took a picture with Mickey and the Incredibles. I will have to post pictures later.

The highlight of the trip was K.C. took Xayla on the little rollercoaster I believe in Toon Town. She barely made the height requirement with her shoes on. When she got off she said "Owee" and "hurt". It was sad, but very cute. We did have a lot of fun. It was nice getting away and just spending lots of time together. Well, I will post pictures later. That's always the best part.

Oh, one more thing. Our simple backyard is basically done. I need to post those pictures as well. We have been in and out of our house because we now have a backyard. Sometimes the kids leave the back door completely open. Well guess what? K.C. saw a mouse in our house yesterday! Gross! My neighbor has already found 2 in her house, but I didn't think anything of it. I guess they are roaming our neighborhood. What is the best way to get rid of one? K.C. is out at the store buying traps and he found this like mouse electrocuter at Lowes (sounds bad). We will see if it works. GROSS!

Picture update

I have been using my laptop so now I am actually using my desktop to blog. I am going to update with some pictures. I need to take pictures of my backyard. I will add them later.

We started Easter morning out with a little Easter hunt in my house.

We had an Easter egg hunt at K.C.'s parent;s house.

We then had some fun making Easter eggs

We had a lesson on Easter at K.C.'s parents house. It was fun.

Yesterday we went to Red Rock. I haven't been there in a long time. I would have had more fun if it wasn't for my allergies. My allergies are killing me. I went to the Dr's today for meds. I want to sleep ALL the time.

We found a new trick to get Xayla to smile. We have to tell her to show us her teeth. It's so cute.

It's my twin couchpecker

Kobi went to the Lake with K.C.'s family last weekend and it was really windy and the water was really choppy. He started crying and screaming "Mommy" (that is what K.C.'s Mother said). When they got to the docking area, Kobi's Uncle Scoot asked him why he was crying and he stated "That wasn't me. It was my twin Couchpecker." I do not know how he comes up with things like this. Now whenever he does things he is embarrassed about or wished he didn't do, He states it was Couchpecker.

I have been busy and will be for the next two weeks trying to get my final evaluations together for my students, but I will post when I can. That's why I haven't had time to post pictures. Will be in touch.

Vegas local resource website

Easter was great. I will post pictures later.

I was reading the Nevada Family Magazine and there is a website that I found that is a free local resource site for families. The site is: http://www.vegasparent.com/
I do not know how to use the hyperlink thing yet. This is a great site for Las Vegas local families.

Pictures found on Eryn's camera

Eryn, K.C.'s sister, let me download some pictures from her camera. I love seeing pictures you have not seen in a long time.
Xayla's a princess

Go Rebels

Kobi is just having fun with Aunt Sara.

We are still having people working on our backyard. I will post pictures when it's done. Nothing else really going on. It has slowed down with school and grading papers. K.C. has finals coming up. We are going to try and surprise the kids at the end of this month and take them to Disneyland. I think I need it more than they do.

The Sweet 16

The Rebels are going to the Sweet 16! How exciting. The 1st time in 16 years. It is really fun watching basketball when they are actually winning. I know K.C. has waited for this for a long time.

On another note, K.C. and I went an watched Phantom of the Opera this weekend for our 4 year anniversay. It was REALLY good. I just feel guilty spending so much money on watching a show. We had a lot of fun and it was nice going on a date.

Mets Rookies

It's Little League time. It's been fun. Kobi is no longer a t-baller. He actually gets the ball pitched to him. The games have been fun, but Little League is time consuming!

Xayla's 2 yr Birthday! 03/01/07

This little one just turned 2! I can't believe it! She is acting like it too. Mrs. Bossy pants. "Go away" "Stop it" and "No" are her favorite words. We had a party for her at the Hollywood park. She enjoyed having friends around. I am getting baby hungry, but we are waiting until K.C. is closer to being done with school. 2 more years! It will go by quickly. By then, Kobi and Xayla will both be such big helpers!

With a birthday comes none other than:

SHOTS! She was not happy about her Dr.'s appointment. She needed her 2nd Hep A shot. She held her arm for 2 days saying "Owe". I felt so bad.

Homemade Bows

Enrichment night was last night and we had a service auction. I won these homemade bows. They are so cute. I wish I was crafty. The bows inspired me (actually the crafty person that made them inspired me), and I went to JoAnne's today and bought some ribbon and clips. When I have time, I want to try and make some bows.

I also went to a girl in my ward, Kirsten's house and she showed me how to work this thing:

I had no idea even how to turn it on. The directions were confusing. It is so funny how you can be good in one area (for me it's school or books) and other areas do not come as easy (for me it's crafts). I think that crafts are so much fun, and I am interested in becoming craftier. I am trying. I stitched up a blanket that was torn. I had a hard time just making a straight stitch. I home practice will make my line straight! It was really fun and much better than grading papers.
Kirsten also made homemade playdo for the kids. I need to get her recipe because it is the best playdo EVER. I love crafty people.

What projects are you working on?
